From the 18th century flamboyantly dressed Irish dance masters roamed the countryside teaching dance to students within their own territory. Irish dance costumes today pay tribute to the dance outfits of old, embroidered peasant dresses with various decorative symbols, the cape held at the shoulder with a Tara brooch. Shoes are the most important element of Irish dance; soft shoes are flat leather lace pumps and are used for reels and slip jigs and are also known as ghillies. Hard shoes have hardened toes and heels to add percussion noises and rhythms to hornpipes etc.
These tiny 'ghillies' will delight any Irish dance fan, detailed and beautifully made they have wonderful detail and are sure to become a treasured keepsake. In sterling silver they come with chain.
